The
laboratory targets at the basic and applied basic biological
researches in the occurrence and the control of plant diseases
and insect pests. The focuses include the mechanisms of
plant-pathogen and plant-insect pest interactions, technologies
of monitoring, forecasting and information of major agricultural
diseases and insect pests, and reinforcing the application of
high-techs including modern biotechnology in the control of
plant diseases and insect pests. Groups of scientists in the
Laboratory undertake the evaluation of the ecological safety of
important genetically modified organisms and study the
mechanisms of alien species invasion and the bases of control.
The scientists develop the technology systems for studying the
dispersal and transmission of crop pathogens and insect pests,
the epidemics and the damage and search for and utilize novel
microbial germplasm resources for biological control. The goal
of all the researches is to control the important diseases and
insect pests of the crops effectively and obtain the utmost
economical, social and ecological benefits.
